Trichogramma, a method of biological control, was used in our fields

Trichogramma, which is considered a method of biological control against insects, was used for test purposes in the Yevlakh farm of Azersheker LLC in cotton, corn and sugar beet fields.

Trichogramma is an entomophagous insect that destroys about 160 types of pests in the egg phase as the main means of biological control against plant pests.
Trichogramma is grown in biolaboratories. Basically, it is more effective against pests that live a secret lifestyle. The parasitic effect of Trichogramma is carried out only by the larvae and in adulthood they feed on nectar.
The method of biological control is based on the use of natural enemies of pest insects. This method has advantages compared to other fighting methods. Thus, the application of this control is inexpensive, harmless to humans, animals and plants and does not pollute the natural environment. In biological control, in most cases, the pest is destroyed without damaging the plants.

Trichogramma is applied in the following periods:

The first stage: When the first generation eggs of the cotton bollworm are detected by the method of monitoring in sugar beet, corn and cotton crops. This happens from the middle of May to the first 10 days of June;
Second stage: In sugar beet, corn and cotton crops, when the eggs of the second and third generation of the cotton bollworm are detected. This coincides from the middle of June to the last 10 days of July.

Against each generation of the pest, two or three applications are carried out with an interval of 5-7 days. The first release of trichogramma to the field is carried out at the beginning of the pest's spawning period and the next release is made during mass spawning.

Terms and conditions of application:

Optimal conditions for the development of trichogramma:

-The temperature should be 18-26°C, relative humidity (70 ± 10) %;
-A newborn trichogramma should be sprayed only by hand 12-24 hours before it reaches the development period;
-It is recommended to spray the trichogramma during the imago development period from 07:00 to 11:00 in the morning or from 16:00 to 20:00 in the evening. Placed at least 50 points per hectare. Unhatched trichogrammas can be spread by air;
-On average, the application of trichogramma is 50-100 thousand individuals per hectare.
