How to save corn fields from pests?

Corn cultivation in our country is both a profitable and a promising field from the point of view of the market. This plant has great agronomic and ecological importance. Technological possibilities, modern hybrids and natural conditions allow to obtain productivity at the level of world indicators per hectare (about 10 t / ha) in many regions.

Pests are one of the main reasons that prevent high yields from corn fields.

Although the climatic indicators observed in the summer season of 2020 (temperature, humidity) create conditions for the intensive development of agricultural plants, on the other hand, farmers face the danger of the activation of pests in their fields. Considering the above, they should pay enough attention to the fight against pests in order to obtain the planned yield from the corn plant: according to the information of the World Agricultural Organization , about half of the corn crop in the world is lost due to pests.

More than 200 species of harmful insects are known in the fields where corn is cultivated. Maize productivity is affected by polyphages: wireworm, grass moth, rodents and cotton bollworms, corn stem borer, as well as specific pests: grain beetle, Swedish fly, various types of grain moths, etc. causes significant damage.

According to the monitoring plan prepared by the experts, should regularly inspect the fields during the entire vegetation period, from pre-planting to harvest. Therefore, in order to protect our fields from pests and obtain a high yield in terms of quantity and quality in the future, it is necessary to determine the damage threshold of insects in advance and to carry out the control works by using chemical means (insecticides) accordingly.
